Haven’t painted in a couple of days and decided to do a couple of quick paintings before calling it a night. The paper is Canson XL, which I’ve had no luck with but thought, “what the heck.”  For the seascape, I used my mini plein air paint set–sepia, cerulean, ultramarine blue. 5 x 5 No sketch.

The second image is two 3 x 5 paintings on the same paper with the same paint set, various colors, inspired by Patrick’s latest youtube of a sunset. No sketch on these either. I slipped them in Strathmore note cards.

You and Fifi inspire me with your ability to bash out these quick sketchy paintings. I’ve never managed to work so small, maybe I need to give it a try.

    These are all lovely.

Thanks, Mark. Yes you should give it a try. I find these quick sketches not only sate my need to paint when time is limited but the expectations are low so more times than not I’m satisfied with the results!

That rock is fantastic and I love the sky!  The two sunsets are also very good, and the colors look fresh.  Especially like the first one.

Thanks, Fifi. The colors look fresh because it was quick, no fiddling. Also, the Canson doesn’t take the water well so the paint isn’t as diluted.

I’m thinking this paper might serve me well to use to make quick, inexpensive painted postcards to send to family and friends while traveling.

These are great, Judy.  I love the colours in the sunsets.  I also watched Patrick’s video on the sunset picture.  I really love your rock picture.  The sea is beautifully done and the foam is outstanding!  Really nice work.

These are all so pretty, Judy! As a beginner, I’m having trouble being more loose. Loose watercolor paintings are my favorite! You’ve done a wonderful job on these.
